Saving a life is in your reach.

On October 17th, 2023, Robert Joseph George died in a preventable dooring-related bicycle collision at the intersection of Fountain Avenue and Edgemont Street in East Hollywood, Los Angeles. Dooring refers to an incident wherein a vehicle door is suddenly opened into the path of an oncoming cyclist.

Robert George, Bob, as he was often called, had a smile that could light up a room. He was humble and fearless. Joyful and gentle. And if you had the pleasure to know him, you were touched by the depth and peacefulness of his presence. He was exquisitely comfortable in his own skin, and by virtue of his openness and warmth, made those around him feel seen and appreciated. This was Bob George's gift to everyone he met.

This space was created and is maintained by Robert’s wife and loved ones. We hope that with education and awareness we can have an impact in preventing this sort of tragedy —one that claimed the life of a beloved husband, brother, and friend who had so much more life to live.  And so much more life to give.

What is Robert’s Reach?

More commonly known as the Dutch Reach, it is a practice for drivers and passengers where, rather than using your hand closest to the door to open it, you use your far hand. This choice sets off a series of five linked actions: reach, swivel, look back, open slowly, and then exit facing traffic.

Who was Robert George?

It's rare to meet someone you feel you've always known. Someone whose openness and warmth makes you feel seen and appreciated. This was Robert George's gift to everyone he met.
